Flame-retardant paint additive
Clear and un-pigmented
For water-based paints
8 oz jar
ASTM E-84 Class A
California Fire Marshal approved
Summary
Roscoflamex PA is a clear, un-pigmented flame-retardant paint additive designed to convert most water-based paints into a coating that helps slow flame spread across the painted surface. Mixed directly into compatible latex, vinyl acrylic, scenic paints, primers, or acrylic glazes, it forms a protective barrier without changing the original paint colour or finish.
This product is ideal for scenic, theatrical, display, and professional paint applications where a flame-retardant coating is required.
Key Features
- Turns compatible water-based paints into a flame-retardant coating.
- Clear formula preserves the colour, sheen, and appearance of the original paint.
- Easy to dose with one 8 oz jar per 1 US gallon of compatible paint.
- Compatible with many latex paints, vinyl acrylic paints, scenic paints, primers, and acrylic glazes.
- Tested to ASTM E-84 Class A.
- Approved by the California Fire Marshal.
Important Use Note
Important: Roscoflamex PA creates a flame-retardant paint film. It does not permanently change the inherent flammability of the substrate underneath.
For best overall fire performance, treat the substrate itself with the appropriate Roscoflamex product whenever applicable. Roscoflamex PA should be understood as a paint additive barrier system, not a substitute for substrate treatment.
Compatibility & Mix Ratios
Do not use with metallic paints. Metallic pigments may react and can tarnish or corrode.
Standard Mix Ratio
One 8 oz jar per 1 US gallon (3.79 L) of compatible water-based paint
Rosco Supersaturated
Add one 8 oz jar to 1 quart of undiluted Supersaturated, then dilute that mixture at least 1:1 with water before use
Mixing Note
Mix thoroughly before application
Compatible uses may include:
Latex house paints
Tinted latex paints
Latex primers
Rosco Scenic paints
Clear flat acrylic glazes
Clear gloss acrylic glazes
Vinyl mural paints
Acrylic water-based mural paints
Always test with your specific paint system before full application.
Coverage & Film Thickness
Coverage
Approx. 300 sq ft per treated gallon, following the paint manufacturer’s spread rate
Minimum Dry Film
At least 4 mil (0.004") dry film thickness required
A continuous and complete film is essential. Thin, incomplete, or uneven coatings will not provide an effective flame-retardant barrier.
Application
- Apply using brush, roller, or sprayer according to the paint manufacturer’s instructions.
- Ensure a uniform, continuous coating across the full surface.
- Meet the required 4 mil minimum dry-film thickness for effective performance.
- Where possible, treat the underlying substrate separately with the correct Roscoflamex product.
Certifications & Testing
- ASTM E-84 Class A surface flame spread rating.
- Approved by the California Fire Marshal.
Storage & Handling
- Store in non-metallic containers whenever possible.
- If using metal spray equipment, clean thoroughly after use, including nozzles and accessories.
- Avoid storing mixed product in metal buckets or cans.
