Rosco FoamCoat™
Rosco FoamCoat™
Rosco FoamCoat™ is a revolutionary non-toxic, water‐based coating designed for styrofoam, polystyrene foam, and a wide range of other surfaces. It cures to a hard, durable finish that resists chipping and cracking while still allowing you to sand, smooth, or carve for intricate detailing. Fully compatible with Rosco Scenic Paints – whether used as colorants or surface coatings – FoamCoat is also flame retardant and water resistant.
Key Features
- Durable Finish: Hard, long-lasting protection that withstands physical abuse.
- Versatile Application: Ideal for foam, primed wood, concrete block, primed fiberglass, papier mâché, muslin, and more.
- Detail Friendly: Can be sanded or carved to add fine detailing without sacrificing strength.
- Safe & Easy to Use: Non-toxic, water-based formulation that cleans up with soap and water.
- Flame Retardant & Water Resistant: Enhances safety and durability for both indoor and outdoor projects.
Application Instructions
Apply Rosco FoamCoat™ by brush, roller, or hopper spray gun – depending on the finish you desire. For fine details, use successive thin coats to build up protection without obscuring the design. For an extra-smooth finish without the need for sanding, smooth the surface with a wet sponge before the FoamCoat sets completely.
Suggested Use
Perfect as a protective coating for foam projects that endure heavy use or need to last through extended tours. Additionally, FoamCoat serves as a superior texturing agent that is more durable and less brittle than traditional plaster or joint compound.
Surface Preparation
- Foam: Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free of dust or grease before application.
- Wood & Plastic: Clean and prime with Rosco Tough Prime prior to application.
- For particularly challenging surfaces, a light sanding will help create additional “tooth” for better adhesion.
Compatibility & Mixing
- Compatible with most water-based coatings. Tint FoamCoat™ using Supersaturated Roscopaint or other quality colorants (Proline, Mixol, Universal, or Cal Tints). No priming of FoamCoat™ is required before painting.
- Mixing: Stir well before use. Solids may settle, so a power mixing blade is recommended.
- Dilution: Use undiluted for a robust, single-coat application. For a more fluid finish that flows and levels smoothly, FoamCoat™ can be diluted with water.
