UNICO System

Microcement

A seamless mineral surface system, built around preparation, moisture control, and a proven application cycle.

Designed for architects, designers, and qualified installers. Every project starts with the substrate.

Microcement

What it is

A seamless, mineral surface system applied in layers. It is designed to deliver a continuous finish when the substrate is stable and the full system cycle is respected.

What decides the outcome

Preparation, moisture control, and correct detailing in wet zones. If you skip the diagnostic step, you are guessing.

Where it works

UNICO can be specified across walls, floors, and integrated architectural elements when the substrate is stable and properly prepared.

  • Interior floors Residential and light commercial, when the substrate is sound and moisture is controlled.
  • Walls, feature zones, and built-ins Seamless continuity across vertical surfaces and transitions.
  • Wet areas Requires correct waterproofing strategy and detailing. The system is only as strong as the membrane and prep underneath.

Where it fails

“Microcement” fails when it is treated like paint or a skim coat. These are the common failure conditions we screen for.

  • Unstable substrates Movement, flex, poor adhesion layers, or weak surfaces beneath will telegraph into the finish.
  • Moisture issues Rising damp, trapped vapor, or unknown moisture content can cause bubbles, detachment, and swelling.
  • Wet zone shortcuts Steam and standing water demand a real waterproofing plan. If water can get underneath, it will.

Moisture is the hidden deal breaker

If the substrate is holding moisture or vapor pressure, a seamless finish becomes a stress test. We screen for risk early so the system can be specified correctly.

Bathrooms and wet zones

Wet zones require a waterproofing membrane strategy and correct detailing at penetrations, transitions, and corners. This is where most “microcement problems” are created.

Surface preparation is the project

If your base is not flat, stable, and compatible, no topcoat will save it. The UNICO cycle starts with prep decisions, not color decisions.
