Rosco Tough Prime is a unique water-based primer designed to bond to the hard-to-prime materials found in every scene shop. Available in White and Black, this quick-drying acrylic primer adheres to a wide range of surfaces—including PVC plastics, aluminum and other metals, foams, muslin, wood, and foamcore. It dries to a durable, water-resistant coating that can be painted over with virtually any water- or solvent-based paint.

Use Tough Prime to prepare almost any surface for painting. It can be applied to prime Vinyl Projection Screens, Dance Floors, and even carpet. Tough Prime Black is especially suited for stage floors and proscenium arches, resisting scuffs and abrasions while delivering a rich black finish.

• Solvent: Water
• Binder Type: Acrylic polymer
• Dilution: Use Tough Prime undiluted for most applications. When applying by brush, you may need to dilute with water to achieve the proper viscosity.

Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dirt or grease. If painting over an existing finish, remove any loose material with a brush. For solvent-based or high-gloss surfaces, lightly sand using fine sandpaper or steel wool, and be sure to remove all dust for optimal adhesion.

Stir contents before use—do not shake. Apply by brush, roller, or spray gun in even, uniform coats. Use overlapping strokes while maintaining a wet edge, and change roller direction often to avoid patterns and streaking. For a more durable finish, apply several thin coats, allowing each coat to dry thoroughly between applications.

• Compatibility: Compatible with Rosco Scenic Paints and most other paints. Tough Prime can also be tinted with Supersaturated Rosco Scenic Paint, colorants, and other water-based paints.
• Film Thickness: 3 mil dry film
• Coverage: Approximately 300 sq. ft. per gallon (28 sq. m. per 3.79L), depending on application method and substrate
• Avg. Dry Time: At 75°F (24°C), dries to the touch in 30-45 minutes; can be re-coated in 1-2 hours
• Clean-Up: Soap and water
• Shelf Life: Minimum 24 months
• Packaging: 1 Gallon and 5 Gallon sizes (3.79L and 18.95L)

• Do not apply when surface or air temperatures are below 50°F (10°C).
• Keep from freezing.
• Avoid prolonged contact with skin or inhalation of spray.

• Use in well-ventilated areas.
