What happened to Ontario Paint & Wallpaper?

“What happened to the old Paint store?” A year later we are still being asked this question. In September of 2009 Ontario Paint & Wallpaper was forced to close after almost a century in business. Yes, we are in the same location as Ontario Paint & Wallpaper, but we have a new name. Primetime Paint & Paper is owned and operated by the former long-time manager/VP of Ontario Paint & Wallpaper, Peter Fortier.

Peter re-hired all his former staff (thanks Pete!), and Primetime Paint carries most of the same products and vast wallpaper collection as Ontario Paint & Wallpaper used to carry. In fact, we have added several new wallpaper suppliers, such as Cole & Son, Osborne & Little and Designers Guild, as well as the complete line of Benjamin Moore’s class-leading eco-friendly paints including, Aura, Natura, Advance etc.

We are in the same location at 299 Queen Street East and we have a new phone number: 416-703-9846. We have a working website,, a Twitter account @primetimepaint, and a Facebook page. The last, and probably the best change has to be that we are no longer tinting paint in the basement. The paint section is now located on the main level so no-one has to carry paint cans up the stairs anymore.

Although we were sad when Ontario Paint & Wallpaper closed its doors – yes, a small part of Toronto paint store history is gone – this change has made room for a new generation. Primetime Paint & Paper is new and fresh, with a veteran staff. We would like to thank all of Ontario Paint & Wallpaper’s old customers for staying loyal and continuing to shop with us, and thank all the new ones for coming to our store.

Please watch our site for the many new and exciting changes, product additions and demos that we have planned for the near future.

Thank you,
The staff at Primetime Paint & Paper Inc.
