Surface Preparation
  • Wood must be clean, dry, and free of dirt, grease, grime, mildew, mill glaze, and old coatings.
  • Wet the surface with clean water before cleaning.
  • Clean with: 4 oz powdered TSP (or substitute) + 1 qt bleach + 3 qt water.
  • Scrub 15–20 minutes. Do not let solution dry on the surface.
  • Rinse thoroughly using 500–800 psi, nozzle 8–12 in away.
  • Let dry 48 hours or until moisture content is 18% or less.
  • Sand: 80–120 grit (vertical) | 60–80 grit (horizontal). Sand with the grain and remove dust.
  • Apply finish within 1 week (horizontal) or 4 weeks (vertical) if the surface stays clean.

Lead Warning: Scraping or sanding old paint may release lead dust. Use a NIOSH-approved respirator and follow EPA lead-safe practices.

Application Instructions
  • CAUTION: Surfaces are slippery when wet.
  • Test absorbency: if water absorbs within 30 sec–2 min, wood is ready. If not, wait 30 days and re-test.
  • Test your color on a small area first. Intermix containers to reduce color variance.
  • Stir thoroughly before and during use. Do not thin.
  • Do not apply in direct sun or if rain/snow/heavy dew or temps below 40 °F (4 °C) are expected within 48 hours.
  • Preferred: natural bristle brush. If rolling or spraying, back-brush immediately.
  • Apply one even coat with the grain. Maintain a wet edge and avoid heavy application to reduce lap marks.
  • Coat end grains and board backs (when possible) for best protection.
Maintenance
To maintain protective performance, apply a maintenance coat when wear becomes visible. Clean and prep the surface as described above. Areas with minimal wear may only need a light coat. Hardwoods and lighter colors may require more frequent maintenance.
Safety & Handling
  • DANGER: Combustible liquid and vapor. Harmful or fatal if swallowed.
  • Use adequate ventilation during and after application and drying.
  • Avoid breathing vapors, mist, or sanding dust. Avoid eye/skin contact.
  • Spontaneous combustion risk: Oil-soaked rags/steel wool/waste can ignite. Store immediately in a sealed, water-filled metal container.
  • Keep out of reach of children. Read label/MSDS before use.
