Roscoflamex SF | For Synthetic Fiber Fabrics

Treating synthetic fabrics can be challenging since synthetic threads do not absorb liquids like natural fibers do. Roscoflamex SF is specifically designed as a penetrating treatment that bonds to the surface of the threads deep within the weave, securing the flame retardant chemicals and providing an effective protective barrier. It works on many synthetic fabrics—such as polyesters, nylons, acrylics, and rayons—as well as most cotton/synthetic blends. While Roscoflamex SF is versatile enough for a wide range of synthetic materials used in scenery and costume construction, always test a sample first to ensure compatibility and effectiveness. With no residue or powdery buildup, Roscoflamex SF simplifies the process of ensuring all your softgoods and scenic fabrics meet Fire Marshall standards.

Using Roscoflamex SF

Roscoflamex SF is premixed and requires no further dilution. The method of application and the amount required for sufficient treatment will vary based on the fabric being treated.

Coverage

One gallon of Roscoflamex SF will treat approximately 500 square feet (46.4 square meters) of fabric.

Applying Roscoflamex SF

Dipping

This is the most efficient method of impregnation. Immerse the fabric completely for ten minutes, then hang to dry.

Brushing

Using a wide lay-in brush, apply the Flamex solution into the fibers of the material. Brush in a criss-cross pattern to ensure adequate absorption.

Spraying

When using a spray application, ensure that an adequate amount of the solution is absorbed. Note that a significant portion of the spray may not reach the fabric. For best results, use a Hudson-type sprayer with a medium nozzle setting, hang the fabric, and spray in a back-and-forth pattern starting at the bottom and working your way up.

Note: Over saturating the fabric may cause stiffening or alter its hand. Always test a sample to determine the fabric's reaction and to verify effective flame retardance.

Certification and Testing

Roscoflamex SF has been approved for use by the California and New York City Fire Marshall and has been tested in accordance with NFPA 701.

Storage

Store Flamex products in non-metallic containers. When using metal sprayers, be sure to thoroughly clean them immediately after use—including nozzles and accessories. Avoid using metal buckets or paint containers whenever possible.

Disclaimer

Please read the instructions supplied with any Flamex product carefully. Rosco offers these products in good faith, but without guarantee of any type, as the materials treated and the methods of application are beyond the manufacturer's control. Determine the suitability of the Flamex product for your intended use and always test before full-scale application.
