We carry Cottage Paint brand paints and waxes. Cottage Paint is a clay-based paint that replicates the old, worn, flat look of antique furniture. It is based on a type of paint that has been around for hundreds of years, however, Cottage Paint is formulated to be much more friendly to the environment than these old paints were.
The main advantages of these paints are as follows:
- No stripping or sanding required.
- Quick drying.
- Easy to distress.
- Environmentally friendly.
Cottage Paint dries very quickly, in about an hour, on most cases. It also tends to adhere very well to just about any surface. One of the big advantages of Cottage Paint is that it does not require much surface preparation. Unlike other paints, you do not need to worry about stripping and sanding the surface. All that’s needed is a clean surface, and the paint should do the rest.
The big draw of Cottage Paint is that it is quite easy to distress, in order to give your materials that older, worn, and antique look. As soon as the paint is dried, you can begin to distress it, using damp clothes or even sandpaper. As it is not a latex paint, it will not peel off when it is sanded, and will retain a nice worn look.
Try Cottage Paint Acrylic Wax Finishes
There are a variety of Cottage Paint waxes available for finishing and varnishing materials. All of the clear waxes come in two forms: flat or satin. All of these waxes are acrylic-based, but may be used a varnish for protective purposes.
For most products, one to two coats of clear wax should be enough. If the item is a tabletop, up to three coats may be needed to ensure proper levels of water resistance and protection.
